A Valentine’s Delight! Try our chocolate thumbprint cookies filled with love.
Thumbprint cookies are a ball of dough where small depression are created with a thumb or small spoon before baking to be filling with jam or a chocolate chip. For Valentines Day, our thumbprint cookies are an American Heritage Historic Chocolate shortbread cookie filled with a Dove Chocolate Candy Heart, a perfect treat for your special valentine.
Chocolate Valentine’s Day Thumbprint Cookies
Makes 48-53 cookies
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Baking Time: 12-15 minutes per batch of cookies
1cup (2 sticks butter, softened to room temperature
2/3 cups sugar
1 large egg
1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/3 cups all purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup American Heritage Historic Chocolate Drink Mix
1 teaspoon coconut oil
2 bags of Dove Promise Valentines Day Candy Chocolates Hearts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place oven rack in the middle position.
You’ll need 2 ungreased cookie sheets
- Place softened butter and sugar into large mixing bowl and beat with electric mixer until smooth and creamy. 2-3 minutes
- Put American Heritage Chocolate Drink Mix and coconut oil unto a small sauce pan and melt over a medium heat. 1-2 minutes. Set aside
- Add egg and vanilla to creamy sugar and butter mixture and process with mixer until well blended.
- Add flour, salt and melted chocolate and beat at a medium speed until blended, the dough will be stiff.
Using a teaspoon or a melon ball scoop, portion the dough and roll it into a ball about the size of a walnut. Four to five balls across the cookie sheet. 5 to 6 rows down
Put your thumb in the center of the ball and push to flatten, leaving a deep thumbprint!
Bake each batch, one cookie sheet at a time for 10 minutes.
While cookies are baking remove the individual wrapper from the Dove chocolate candies
After 10 minutes, remove the cookies tray from the oven and place an unwrapped chocolate heart on the flattened surface of the cookie and put the cookie sheet back into the oven and bake for another 2 minutes.
Remove from the oven and cool on the sheet for 3 minutes, then transfer the cookies to a cooling rack. You can also put them in the refrigerator for a few minutes to set up the chocolate.
Store in a single layer, separated by wax paper, in an airtight container.
The cookie is a delicious rich chocolate shortbread with a chocolate candy heart melted to the top.
