It almost goes without saying that I love chocolate. I also enjoy eating avocados: as guacamole, on top of hamburgers, or with chicken or fish. But I have never tried avocados with chocolate! The other day, American Heritage posted a link to a recipe for Chocolate Avocado Pudding on their Facebook page. I was intrigued; I just had to try it.
Did you know that avocadoes are fruit? An avocado is a large berry with a single seed also referred to as an Alligator Pear, for its thick green bumpy skin. Avocado trees, like cacao trees, are native to Mexico and Central America.
Avocados were introduced from Mexico to California in the 19th century. Today avocados are considered a super food offering nearly 20 vitamins and minerals in every serving. An avocado also has the highest protein content of any fruit and contains more potassium than bananas.
Both Avocados and American Heritage Historic Chocolate boast many health benefits. Numerous studies indicate that people who eat avocado and chocolate are healthier!
Here is my recipe:
American Heritage Chocolate Avocado Pudding
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Refrigerate for 30 minutes
6 large, very ripe avocados
1 cup American Heritage Chocolate Drink
1 cup of coconut milk
2 tablespoons of vanilla extract (do not use imitation)
2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon
3/4 cup of organic honey
½ cup coconut oil
Remove avocados from the skins (and remove pit) and place in a food processor. Blend until creamy. Set aside.
Heat coconut oils and American Heritage Historic Chocolate Drink powder in a small sauce pan over a low heat, stir until chocolate is smooth, remove from heat and add honey to chocolate mixture and stir until well blended.
Add in all remaining ingredients to the avocado in the food processor, blending until pureed, scraping down the sides when needed to combine. Blend for a good 1-2 minutes until completely creamy and all the avocado has thoroughly mixed with the chocolate.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes and serve chilled. Top with whipped cream, sprinkles, or cocoa nibs, or eat as is.
The pudding is pleasantly delicious! The avocado is creamy; the American Heritage Historic Chocolate is rich in taste. A perfect foodie paring! Try it and let me know what you think.
